AUDITOR-GENERAL APPOINTED TO SERVE ON THE ICGFM BOARD

The International Consortium on Governmental Financial Management (ICGFM) has elected Mr. Abdul Aziz the Auditor-General of Sierra Leone, as one of its Board members. The appointment was conveyed through a letter dated 19th January, 2026. The content of the letter states: “On behalf of the Board of Directors of the International Consortium on Governmental Financial Management, I want to congratulate you on your election as an Individual Member Representative.” 

The ICGFM is a global organisation established to foster improved Public Financial Management (PFM) worldwide. The Consortium provides a platform to address complex real-time challenges in public policy and finance, promoting improved, transparent and accountable financial management. Based in the United States, the Consortium serves as a central diverse network for PFM professionals, uniting government officials, academics and private practitioners globally. The Consortium hosts conferences (often in Washington, D.C.) that connect PFM professionals from around the world to discuss trends such as, digital transformation in PFM, public debt, and fiscal accountability.    

This appointment did not come as a surprise to many, as the Auditor-General is an astute PFM expert whose experience spans over thirty years through public sector auditing. Being an active participant in all ICGFM conferences held, over the years, the Auditor-General has been making impactful and groundbreaking contributions during these conferences which attracted the attention and admiration of the Board of Directors of the ICGFM. These resounding and distinguished contributions he has been making in these conferences, provided the comfort for the Board to place reliance on the Auditor-General by electing him to the ICGFM Board.

This appointment will pave the way for more PFM practitioners in Sierra Leone to benefit from the ICGFM activities, and be better positioned to implement fiscal policies in a more prudent manner.
